Project Overview

Challenge

Florist apps often lack accessibility, with users having to navigate to individual product pages to add items. Inadequate product descriptions, limited live chat support, and scarce customization options further hinder the shopping experience.

Goal

To improve our florist app, I want to enhance accessibility and user-friendliness for all by offering detailed product descriptions, easy item addition to shopping bags, and a live chat feature for navigation support.

User Research

I conducted comprehensive user research, including surveys, interviews, and usability testing, for my florist app design. Initially, I assumed users preferred a simple shopping process and might avoid customization. However, the research revealed a strong desire for easy customization and emphasized the need for a streamlined cart addition feature. This guided me to create a more intuitive and user-friendly app, catering to diverse user needs.

Here are some shots from the ideation phase, featuring brainstorming sessions, sketches, and organizational activities.

Ideation Overview

In the competitive landscape of online florist apps, my goal is to create a solution that meets evolving user needs. Through research and competitive analysis of leaders like Farmgirl Flowers, Roses Only, Urban Stems, and Bloomsy Box, we aim to develop a user-focused platform. This platform will offer diverse floral arrangements, flexible delivery, and personalized recommendations. By enhancing automation, improving accessibility, and providing educational resources, we seek to deliver an exceptional floral shopping experience.

Prototype Overview

In the prototype phase, I followed a structured process that began with site maps, user flows, and paper wireframes, evolving into digital wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes. Usability studies at each stage ensured alignment with user needs and feedback, resulting in a polished, user-centric final product.

Usability Study

In the usability study of the Bloomsy florist app's lo-fi prototype, users were tasked with common floral shopping activities to assess navigability, feature clarity, and customization options. Their interactions offered direct insights into the design's effectiveness and user satisfaction.

FINDING  #1

Customization Confusion

Users found it difficult to customize bouquets due to unclear customization options and a lack of guidance throughout the process.

FINDING  #2

Search Functionality Issues

The search feature did not yield relevant results consistently, causing frustration among users trying to find specific flowers or arrangements.

FINDING  #3

Checkout Process Complexity

The checkout process was perceived as overly complex, with too many steps and unclear instructions, leading to higher drop-off rates.

Takeaways

Enhanced Accessibility for Inclusive Design

To improve accessibility, I enhanced color contrast throughout the design. This means that text and interface elements now have more distinct color differences, making them easier to see and read for users with visual impairments or color vision deficiencies.

Valuable Insights from User-Centric Design Evolution

Throughout this project, I gained valuable insights into user-centric design and accessibility considerations. Conducting usability studies and incorporating user feedback significantly improved the overall user experience. I also discovered the importance of iterative design for continuous refinement and enhancement of the app's usability.

Continuous Improvement and Future Steps

Moving forward, I will focus on refining the app's usability through more testing rounds. Gathering additional user feedback will help me fine-tune the design and ensure it aligns with user expectations and accessibility standards.
